Water treatment plants are facilities that treat and purify raw water from natural sources to make it safe and suitable for human consumption and various other purposes. These plants employ a combination of physical, chemical, and biological processes to remove contaminants, improve water quality, and ensure that the treated water meets regulatory standards. Here are the key processes involved in water treatment plants: Coagulation and Flocculation: Chemicals such as aluminum sulfate or ferric chloride are added to raw water to facilitate the aggregation of suspended particles. This process is called coagulation. Flocculation follows, where gentle mixing encourages the formation of larger particles called flocs. Sedimentation: During sedimentation, the water is held in a large tank, allowing the flocs to settle to the bottom due to gravity. This process removes larger particles, including dirt, sand, and organic matter. Filtration: Filtration involves passing the water through layers of sand, gravel, and activated carbon to remove smaller suspended particles, microorganisms, and residual chemicals. This step further enhances water clarity and quality.
