Similar to reverse osmosis, the membrane filtration method of ultrafiltration (UF) uses hydrostatic pressure to push water through a semi-permeable membrane. As a pressure-driven barrier against endotoxins, bacteria, viruses, suspended particles, and other pathogens, ultrafiltration (UF) creates extremely pure water with little silt density. Hydrostatic pressure is used to drive a liquid against a semipermeable membrane during ultrafiltration (UF), a type of membrane filtration. Water and low molecular weight solutes pass through whereas suspended solids and large molecular weight solutes are trapped. Ultrafiltration is not fundamentally different from reverse osmosis, microfiltration, or nanofiltration, with the exception of the size of the molecules preserved.
